Rajiv Kumar replaces Ashok Lavasa appointed as a new election Commissioner.
Rajiv Kumar was designated as finance Secretary in July 2019, Kumar will be appointed as the election commissioner after resignment of Ashok Lavasa.

Kumar was a 1984 - batch IAS officer from Jharkhand cadre and into three decades of experience in public policy& administration across various sectors.
Qualification: BSc and LLB degrees along with a master's in public policy and sustainability.
Experience: secretary, Department of Financial Services
Achievement: He played a major role in merging 10 public sector banks.
He was also an instrument in brokering peace between the center and RBI that resulted in a smooth transfer of ₹1.76 lakh crore of the central banks surplus to the exchequer.
Key role in flagship schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana. Instrumental role in streamlining the promotion and appointment process dine by (Appointment Committee of the Cabinet )ACC
