Mumbai is in a flooded condition due to continuous rains since Wednesday. The meteorological department hints at more showers and heavy winds throughout Thursday as well.

Mumbai is in a flooded condition due to continuous rains since Wednesday. The meteorological department hints at more showers and heavy winds throughout Thursday as well.

Floods are one known circumstance during the rainy season and this year with the ongoing pandemic of Coronavirus it has gone forward to devastate millions of houses and people. After the highly covered floods in Assam and Bihar, Mumbai is picking up in the race of flooded areas. On Wednesday, due to excessive rainfall, the entire city is under severe waterlogging. Also, the traffic has been disrupted due to the flooded condition. 

In just 12 hours of severe rainfall the waterlogging reached such an amount in Colaba that has not been observed in the past forty six years. There is an alert of heavier rains and strong winds in Mumbai on Thursday, 6th of August from the meteorological department of Mumbai. Due to rains 9 state highways have been flooded and 34 roads have been closed in Kolhapur area.

The rains have caused nearly thirty trees to fall in the Churchgate area leading to  road blocks. Removal and clean up of the streets are being done by BMC. The winds gushed up to about 107 KMPH on wednesday evening which uprooted trees.

The Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray urged people to stay indoors to safeguard themselves and not leave shelter unless extremely important. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has given a red alert to the entire city of Mumbai and its neighboring regions like Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Pune, Ahmednagar and Nashik.

Prime minister Modiji spoke to Uddav Thackeray about the prevailing situation in Mumbai and to help the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) help the citizens so that they don't face any hardships in the hard times.Santacruz observatory recorded 8.8 cm of rainfall while Colaba recorded 22.9 cm of rainfall on Wednesday evening when the storm gusted in the area.

Dahanu in Palghar recorded over 350mm of rainfall that ended near 5.30p.m. in the evening. Thane recorded over 150mm of rainfall according to IMD reports. Teams of NDRF have been stationed near Thane and Palghar to deal with the losses and events of natural calamity.
